Workshops and Retreats
The following workshops are available as a keynote address, as one to four-hour workshops, or as an extended corporate retreat. The descriptions below are only a summary; all content is catered to the individual organization.
Most Effective Approach to Workshops
Workshop material can be easily lost once participants return to their work environments. Groups that have received the greatest long-term benefits have divided a combination of my workshops into nine total days over the course of nine to 12 months AND included individual coaching for participants between sessions. This solidifies what's been covered in the workshops and encourages long-term integration and retention of the material. Coaching - bimonthly, at the minimum - coupled with classroom learning is a powerful method in developing both individuals and teams.
Available Workshops
- Sustainable Authentic Leadership
This workshop is an introductory course to sustainable authentic leadership: defining what it is, how it differs from most top-down leadership models, and how a leader incorporates it into their work. I define sustainable leadership as an approach that is maintainable for the leader over the long term, that reduces likelihood of burnout, and that encourages leadership authenticity, increases capacity and effectiveness. - Signature Strengths
The Signature Strengths workshop helps participants explore their own unique strengths. Many studies show that focusing on a person's strengths will improve their performance, productivity, and general level of satisfaction. Participants receive Strengths-Based Leadership by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie, a book that includes the StrengthsFinder® assessment. I ask that every participant complete this assessment prior to the workshop. - Creating a Culture of Trust
Trust is the base and is a requirement for any thriving business in which employees and executives alike feel fully engaged, empowered to do their best work, and hopeful that they can impact change. Before innovation occurs, it’s absolutely necessary that trust be part of the culture. In this workshop, we delve into what constitutes a culture of trust, what attributes a leader must possess to create a culture of trust, and the steps leaders can take to build this type of culture. - Working on Purpose
Discovering our distinct purpose and meaning in life is a cradle-to-grave process. Answering the essential question, "What makes me want to get out of bed in the morning?" becomes even more vital to staying alive as we age and retire. As many of us approach retirement and the second half of life, we begin to start thinking about reinventing ourselves. Most likely we will begin by asking ourselves some essential questions: Who am I? Where do I belong? What do I care about? What is my purpose in life? Based on 20 years of research and practice, Working On Purpose is designed for people who want to explore alternatives to the conventional notion of retiring from work. The one-day workshop will provide clarity around life direction, knowledge and tools to help make conscious life choices as well as the motivation and confidence to help you move forward. The Working on Purpose workshop will give you the opportunity to prepare for the second half of life and help you answer "what's next"?

"Our leadership classes were priceless. In the multiple gatherings we dove deep into conversations about the work of leading an organization. We learned much, developed deep treasured relationships and were equipped to serve our organizations more effectively. The lectures, reading and discussions gave us a chance to reflect deeply on our selves and our callings as leaders. The multiple gatherings gave us a chance to go deep together and deepen our understanding of ourselves. The time invested in the coaching and leadership classes did and continue to make a difference for me and the synod I serve."
